An IoT product needs more than a sensor and an internet connection. It needs a defined job, an operating environment, a reliable path between the device and its software, and a useful action or interface for the person using it.<\/p>\n

The device and its electronics<\/h2>\n

Define what the product measures or controls, how it is powered and what it connects to. Sensors, user inputs, actuators and physical interfaces influence the PCB, firmware and enclosure together. Custom electronics can be designed around the application rather than fitting the application around an off-the-shelf device.<\/p>\n

Connectivity, firmware and connected software<\/h2>\n

The communication approach depends on the product. Our documented projects include Bluetooth communication in Pathfinder<\/a> and Wi-Fi Direct between Smart Glasses<\/a> and a phone. These are real project architectures, not a promise that every product should use the same protocol.<\/p>\n

Firmware handles the device’s local behavior. A mobile app, server or dashboard can provide the connected interface. The original Smart Glasses system passes images from a wearable camera through a mobile app to a recognition server and returns spoken feedback. Binary Analytics<\/a> documents physical customer-feedback terminals with online reporting dashboards.<\/p>\n

Cloud integration, gateway requirements, device management, data retention and security requirements should be identified in the project brief. We select and scope these around the actual deployment rather than assume a universal platform or technology stack.<\/p>\n

Enclosures, prototypes and manufacturing<\/h2>\n

The connected device must also exist as a physical product. Mechanical design and prototyping help assess component fit, user interaction and assembly. Prototype and production requirements are different. Expected quantity, service access, installation, power, connectivity and the test conditions all affect the next development stage.<\/p>\n

    What to agree before development<\/h2>\n

    A useful scope identifies the prototype or product stage, hardware files, firmware and software handover, required interfaces, test criteria and any pilot quantity.
