Hardware Product Development

MakersGround develops physical technology products in Beirut, Lebanon. We bring mechanical design, custom electronics, firmware, product software, prototyping and manufacturing into an agreed development scope.

A complete product is more than its individual parts

A physical product has to work as a system. Its mechanism, circuit board, enclosure, code and user interface affect one another. Product development begins by identifying the intended use, the current stage and the technical questions that must be resolved.

Our Gomicron additive manufacturing project provides a concrete example. MakersGround handled mechanical design, PCB and electronics, firmware and control, slicing software, prototyping and manufacturing. The project includes design renders, custom PCB evidence, software screenshots and physical printer photographs.

Mechanical engineering and CAD

Mechanical design translates the product’s task into a physical layout and component interfaces. The mechanism, board mounting, connectors, access and assembly need to work together. CAD provides a way to review these relationships before and during prototyping.

The Gomicron material includes CAD renders of the M1 printer, M-Curer and printing tray. The Smart Glasses project includes wearable and board design imagery. These original project records demonstrate physical design work alongside electronics and software.

Prototyping and proof of concept

A proof of concept should answer a specific technical question. A functional prototype brings more of the product together so its behavior and physical interaction can be reviewed. The appropriate prototype depends on the uncertainty: a mechanism, circuit, communication path or complete device may need to be demonstrated first.

Functional electronic device prototyping is an established MakersGround service. The original Pathfinder project record describes a completed proof-of-concept prototype being tested before commercialization. Its historical status should guide the reader; a prototype record does not imply a current commercial release.

3D printing and additive manufacturing

Our existing services include plastic 3D printing using multiple printers. Printed parts can support a prototype’s physical form and component fit. Material, finish, geometry and intended use belong in the brief so the process is appropriate to the part.

We also document engineering projects for 3D printing machines: Gomicron’s resin printing system and the Buildink concrete printing machines. Building a printer is distinct from producing a customer’s printed part; the required engagement should be clear from the start.

Manufacturing and the next product stage

Short-run manufacturing and production are established MakersGround services, and manufacturing is part of the confirmed Gomicron engineering contribution. Production quantity, assembly, supply constraints, service access and required checks should be agreed for the next stage.

A successful prototype is evidence that its demonstrated functions work under the reviewed conditions. It does not settle every production requirement. Define the additional work and handover needed before committing to a production run.

Development stages and agreed deliverables

  1. Discovery: document users, intended use, constraints and the work already completed.
  2. Product strategy: establish requirements, technical uncertainties and a phased development plan.
  3. Design and prototype: develop the agreed mechanics, electronics, firmware and software, then integrate them.
  4. Review and next stage: evaluate the agreed behavior, record revisions and define manufacturing or support requirements.

Agree the design files, software handover, prototypes, documentation and manufacturing scope with the engagement. These depend on the product and its stage. Read our guide to hardware prototypes, MVPs and production readiness for the distinction between stages.

Can MakersGround take a product from prototype to manufacturing?

Yes. We offer prototyping and short-run manufacturing, and the Gomicron project confirms work across both. The next stage depends on the design’s maturity, required quantity and agreed production requirements.

What should I send before a project discussion?

Share the intended use, available drawings or code, current prototype, target quantity and known constraints. A project can begin with an idea, an existing design or a defined engineering problem.
